65 Percent of Oracle E-business Suite Customers Achieve a Positive ROI within 3.1 Years

Nucleus cites improved financial management, increased productivity, and reduced IT costs as factors

Nucleus Research, a global provider of Return on Investment (ROI)-focused research and advisory services, today announced the results of an independent study of Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL), an enterprise software vendor. The study, published today and titled, "The Real ROI from Oracle E-Business Suite Applications," concluded that sixty-five percent of Oracle's customers interviewed had achieved a positive ROI from their deployments, after an average deployment time of 3.1 years. For the newest report in Nucleus Research's "Real ROI" series, Nucleus analysts independently contacted Oracle's customers without the vendor's knowledge to analyze the return on investment achieved by its customers. For this report, Nucleus conducted 22 in-depth ROI assessments with customers who agreed to participate in the study. Specifically, Nucleus examined the up-front and 3-year costs, the key benefits and challenges for customers, as well as the time for deployment.

Nucleus also concluded that more than ninety percent of Oracle customers will achieve a positive ROI within a 5-year timeframe.

"Customers can achieve a positive ROI from Oracle's E-Business Suite if they stick to a strategy that always has ROI in mind — buying as you plan to deploy, making sure you have qualified consultants, and focusing on the returns to prioritize projects," said Rebecca Wettemann, vice president of research at Nucleus Research. "Companies planning to invest millions of dollars in IT projects should first have a clear understanding of what their return on investment will be. Too often we talk to technology customers who've wasted millions simply because they never had a focused IT strategy with clear ROI goals. Starting with an ROI assessment will help companies avoid wasting money further down the line."

Key Findings

Some of the key findings in the report included the following:

  • 65% of Oracle E-Business Application Suite customers achieved a positive ROI from their deployment, after an average deployment time of 3.1 years.
  • 64% of projects were completed on time, and 55% were completed within budget.
  • Most Oracle customers followed a phased approach to deploying applications — making an initial investment followed by other component purchases.
  • Almost half of the customers interviewed had purchased additional components that they had not yet deployed.
