Nucleus Research and Baseline Magazine Announce the Speakers of the ROI Summit
Wednesday, 28 January 2004

Baseline magazine, a Ziff Davis Media publication, and Nucleus Research, a leading research firm, announced today its lineup of keynote speakers for the Technology ROI Summit. Charles Feld, Executive Vice President at Electronic Data Systems, and Jeff Cohen, former CIO of JetBlue, are scheduled to deliver keynote addresses at the Technology ROI Summit, June 10, 2004 at the Warwick Hotel in New York City.

The all-day Technology ROI Summit will provide critical insight into the challenges and opportunities associated with deploying new technology solutions. In addition to the keynote addresses, four separate panel sessions will further enlighten IT executives on the following topics: getting funding for an IT project, improving productivity and operations efficiency, obtaining and retaining the most revenue, and effectively tracking results.

Charles Feld — formerly the CIO at industry leaders Delta Airlines, Burlington Northern, and Frito-Lay and founder of the Feld Group — is widely recognized for his visionary prowess in helping companies build technology infrastructures that deliver ROI. He will advise the attending executives on how to gain demonstrable returns from their technology investments and how to deploy those applications successfully in an address called "Getting IT Right."

Jeff Cohen, former CIO of JetBlue, is the founder of a development firm called Vertical Software Group. In his address, he will provide project leaders and managers direct insight into how innovative thinking can lead to clear competitive advantages. Cohen was instrumental in developing JetBlue systems that automated ticket sales and tagging of bags and even put live TVs in seatbacks. Cohen will deliver the keynote speech at the Technology ROI Awards luncheon at the Summit.

Technology ROI Awards

The Technology ROI Awards program, which is part of the Technology ROI Summit, honors companies whose deployments of specific technology solutions achieve positive bottom-line financial and business results. The deadline for awards submissions is fast approaching. Companies can still fax or mail their entries or submit them online by February 2, 2004, at www.roiawards.com. Winners will be announced at the Summit, and their case studies will be published in the June 2004 edition of Baseline magazine. The deadline for ROI Awards nominations is February 2, 2004.

Companies are invited to enter projects for any prize except the grand prize, which considers all projects submitted. Projects may be nominated for up to three prizes — a maximum of two categories plus the Innovation and/or Justification prize. The categories are:

  • Productivity
  • Optimization
  • Customer Service
  • Integration
  • Collaboration
  • Finance & Auditing
  • Performance Management
  • Business Intelligence
  • Public Sector
  • Enterprise Planning

Winners are selected based on the overall return on investment of their deployments. Applicants will submit costs and benefit numbers for their projects for a three-year period, and Nucleus Research will use its standard methodology to verify those costs and benefits. Each finalist organization will undergo an in-depth analysis, including Nucleus interviews with the project teams. Finalists will also receive a complimentary review of the project.

A panel of independent judges will examine and confirm the results.

About Baseline

Baseline, published by Ziff Davis Media is a practical, award-winning guide to costing and managing the deployment of leading-edge information systems. Through case studies, news stories, company dossiers, and financial tools, the publication provides technology leaders and business executives with a detailed look at how their peers are implementing information technology. The success—or failure—of each implementation is measured by the company's actual progress against "baseline" expectations of financial returns and technology deliverables. Baseline has won several industry accolades including: two consecutive Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards for editorial excellence (2002 and 2003), a Circulation Excellence Award from Circulation Management magazine for outstanding performance in circulation marketing and management. The publication was also named two years in a row to BtoB magazine's Power Media 50 List, which highlights the most influential business publications (2002 and 2003).
