Firm Gains Momentum as it Continues to Set Standards with Accurate ROI-Focused Analysis of Technology

Nucleus Research today celebrates its five-year anniversary, marking critical milestones and creating a true footprint on the evolving analyst landscape. An independent source of quantitative and financial analysis for end users, Nucleus Research continues to help companies achieve value from technology implementations. The firm has conducted thousands of independent case studies examining software implementations at companies across a broad spectrum of technology disciplines.

Consolidation and other factors have changed the technology research landscape over the past five years. Corporate technology decision makers are seeking pointed, focused analysis of technology solutions which will benefit the organization by delivering value to the bottom line. Nucleus Research, well-known for its ROI analysis, is leading this change with quantitative oriented research that provides a balance for technology users working with other firms such as Gartner or Forrester Research.

"Technology has become a critical component of the corporate enterprise and its strategic value to the business must be justified with each purchase, be it a large or small investment," said Ian Campbell, President and CEO of Nucleus Research. "This industry has changed considerably over the past five years. In many cases IT departments are responsible to the CFO to ensure the technology investments are providing value to the company. CIOs cannot rely on long-term forecasts; they need to evaluate how the technology will benefit the organization today."

Nucleus Research was formed in 2000 in response to a lack of accurate quantitative research regarding the value of technology. Nucleus developed its ROI Case Studies, a hallmark of the firm, to provide factual valuations of technology solutions based on real-world implementations. To date, more than 700 ROI reports have been published. Another cornerstone Nucleus offers includes the financial modeling ROI tools designed to provide an accurate assessment for evaluation and budgeting of technology investments.

Usage of the tools provided by Nucleus Research – many of which are available free through the Web site at nucleusresearch.com/services_tools.html -- continues to expand, and more than 325,000 ROI tools have been downloaded and are being used around the world by buyers and sellers of technology. Solution-specific ROI tools currently available for free download include business intelligence, customer relationship management, storage management, enterprise resource management, supply chain, voice over IP, and a standard ROI tool.

Following this momentum, 2004 was a pivotal year for Nucleus Research. The firm became the only technology research firm registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. The firm also launched the ROI Advisory Service, a comprehensive subscription service designed to enable financial, sales and marketing professionals to understand and use ROI analysis that complies with the tenets of GAAP. In addition, the firm commenced its ROI boot camp in partnership with Babson College to teach GAAP compliant ROI calculation methodology to members of the business community.

Moving forward, for 2005, in preparation for technology purchasing cycles, Nucleus Research will offer a compilation of the firm’s real-world quantitative research and analysis to assist technology buyers in making the right decisions. The publication will cover the broad spectrum of the enterprise software market from business intelligence to CRM, from ERP to collaboration, hardware to e-commerce and more, to ensure companies are capitalizing on technology investments.

The firm is also seeing extraordinary growth in its training services. Nucleus staff members provide training on financial metrics and methodology at companies and conferences around the world, and through an in-depth two-Day ROI bootcamp program at Babson College. To date, Nucleus Research has trained more than 75,000 personnel at conferences and company training events over the past five years.

"Technology continues to become more sophisticated and valuable to end-users, and our goal is to ensure companies understand the financial benefits that new technologies can offer," said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of Research for Nucleus Research. "Our analysts have conducted thousands of technology case studies working with companies of all sizes to help them realize the implications from their investments. Our clients know recommendations from Nucleus Research are based on facts, not projections or opinions."
