IBM buys Rational Software

Notes and Reports
December 2002 - Report C63

THE BOTTOM LINE

IBM's purchase of Rational Software will benefit IBM by bringing in new customers and new revenues, and by strengthening its competitive position versus Microsoft. For new users, however, it won't make much difference - Rational-IBM joint solutions have been available for some time, and IBM says it has no plans to alter Rational's current development plans.
