Self-Service Solutions Shaking up Analytics Market, Taking on the Establishment Nucleus Research Value Matrix Finds
October 31, 2017It’s a battle of native solutions built from the ground up versus legacy apps
The 2017 Analytics Technology Value Matrix shows a seismic shift in the landscape with younger, smaller vendors entering the Leaders quadrant and effectively taking on established bigger players.
Offering fresher solutions developed from the ground up for specific business needs, the new challengers are starting to outmaneuver larger vendors offering legacy applications. In fact, the challengers now have some advantages over established vendors that need to heavily modify existing offerings to meet changing market needs.
Leaders in the latest Value Matrix include Information Builders, Microsoft, Qlik, Salesforce, Sisense and Tableau.
“The increase of departmental business intelligence is upsetting the established order and disrupting the industry, all to the benefit of customers. We expect this increased competition to accelerate development and facilitate a major shift in the ‘data culture’ of businesses—with corresponding analytics products in tow—over the next 12 months,” said Barbara Z. Peck, principal analyst at Nucleus Research.
Self-service and more intuitive solutions are other big trends emerging from the Value Matrix and greatly improving usability across the board. Customers are demanding easier applications that minimize their need for IT support. That includes intuitive visual solutions, such as embedded dashboards.
“Customers are rethinking legacy problems, demanding better self-service capabilities and data discovery functionality and drilling down to departmental BI capabilities. We are also seeing forward-looking vendors differentiate themselves by taking on industry-specific data requirements and building products around smooth embedding use cases,” said Joe Mathias, analyst at Nucleus Research.
