Industry consolidation, tighter alignment with analytics and a move toward Human Capital Management seen in latest Technology Value Matrix

BOSTON – May 8, 2012 – Nucleus Research released the H1 2012 Technology Value Matrix for Workforce Management (WFM), finding a shift from traditional time clock and payroll solutions toward the empowerment of a more productive and increasingly mobile workforce.

With many WFM projects reaching the end of their lifecycle, organizations are starting to evaluate Workforce Management (WFM) software with a growing emphasis on optimizing labor productivity and reducing risk, Nucleus found. Vendors are responding with solutions that are closely aligned with analytics to boost productivity, provide mobile device enablement and increasingly include Human Capital Management (HCM) capabilities.

“Companies are moving from old workforce management solutions like time clocks and back-office automation to cloud and mobile solutions that drive greater employee productivity. We found Ceridian customers were taking advantage of advanced scheduling, employee self-service, and mobile capabilities to not just cut costs but transform the way they manage their workforce – making Ceridian a leader in delivering value to the market,” said Rebecca Wettemann, VP of Research, Nucleus Research.

Kronos, Workforce Software, ADP, Infor Workbrain, and Sumtotal are also amongst Ceridian as leaders in the current Value Matrix in both usability and functionality. There have been a number of high-profile acquisitions since last fall, including Matrix Leaders (Ceridian), Core Providers (SAP with Success Factors and Oracle with Taleo), and other vendors not tracked by the WMF Value Matrix (Salesforce.com with Rypple). Vendors that have improved their usability and functionality ratings have added mobile device access while providing labor force productivity and optimization based on analytics and edge innovations. Further, there is a renewed focus on managers with back-office responsibilities driving “push” analytics as a means to respond to critical labor force changes based on events.
