A realistic take on the state of artificial intelligence today

With media coverage, customer interest, and vendor investments in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) reaching a fever pitch, it’s important to cut through the hype and assess the state of the technology as it currently is, not as the most cutting-edge academic research suggests it could be. Many vendors include “AI capabilities” on their product roadmaps just to “keep up with the Joneses” rather than deliver genuine utility and value to customers. Above all, real AI applications require a level of maturity and sophistication with data management and analytics that most companies simply haven’t yet reached.
