Although omnichannel retailers can leverage Manhattan Associates’ distributed order management (DOM) system to pick online orders from the distribution center, they should use it in conjunction with the vendor’s inventory optimization (IO) software to position as much stock as possible at the warehouse for web-channel sales. By using IO in conjunction with DOM and placing items intended for online sale as much as possible in the warehouse rather than the store, the vendor can lower its fulfillment costs by one sixth and boost profit margins by an average of 7 percent.
