Oracle acquires DataFox

October 29, 2018 - Research S167

On October 22, Oracle Corporation (Oracle) announced its acquisition of DataFox Intelligence, Inc. (DataFox) for an undisclosed sum. The product will be supported as-is for existing customers and Oracle plans to use the technology in the Customer Experience Cloud to improve data quality with new company-level data and has announced three specific capabilities that DataFox will support: total available market (TAM) expansion, generating “smart talking points” for sales reps, and account prioritization. In the scope of the greater “data arms race” taking place between major cloud vendors like Salesforce and Microsoft, this acquisition, along with Oracle’s history as a database company and its industry expertise, have the company poised to emerge from the crowd as a differentiated leader in data management and intelligence capabilities. Also, this move could allow Oracle to challenge Dun & Bradstreet as an institutional curator of company data.
